Album 11

In my role at UNICEF, supported by the European Union, I was instrumental in the launch of "Album 11," a poignant project in collaboration with esteemed composer Jad Rahbani. This innovative album is a collection of popular children's songs from across the region, re-arranged and performed by children from Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, and Turkey. These renditions form a core part of UNICEF's psychosocial support initiatives, aimed at aiding children affected by the Syrian crisis. Through music, the project fosters social cohesion and helps these young individuals reconnect with their heritage and the Arabic language. The original songs, composed by Elias Rahbani during the Lebanese war in 1976 and first recorded by his sons Jad and Ghassan, have resonated with audiences for over four decades. With the generous backing of the European Union Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian Crisis and the EU "Madad" Fund, we revitalized these classics to address contemporary issues like education, the environment, family ties, nutrition, peace, and reconstruction, enriching the lives of children throughout the region. This renewed version continues to spread joy and foster a sense of community among its young listeners.

Crafting concise social media snippets to prepare for the launch of Album 11

During a workshop held in Turkey, we brought together refugee Syrian children and children from the local community. The workshop focused on introducing music as a way to foster understanding and strengthen ties between the refugee and host communities.

This musical encounter served as a harmonious bridge, enhancing cohesion and celebrating shared experiences. Additionally, we identified talented children from these workshops to participate in the recording of "Album 11."
